 3rd Annual VFW Rib Fest

May 23 - 24, 2008

We will have a great band "Back Seat Driver" playing 60's, 70's, & 80's dancing music on Fri. May 23rd from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.  They are a local band with a big following that has played in this area for 20 yrs.

Sweet Justice will be playing from 2 - 6 on Saturday and Tony Keck will be playing between sets.

"Seventh Son" from Kalamazoo will be playing Rhythm and Blues on Sat. May 24th from 7p.m. to 11p.m.  Seventh Son is a Kalamazoo based blues band formed in 1986. Three of its founding members - lead singer/harmonica player David Hunt; singer/drummer Steve Kovach; and singer/bassist Patrick Banks remain with the band today. Guitarist Scott Matteson and singer/keyboardist David Cleveland joined in 1990. the band expanded from five pieces to seven pieces with the addition of horns in 1992. Current saxmen John Blissard and Todd Jones joined in 1992 and 1993 respectively. This remarkable longevity and low personnel turnover has enabled the band to achieve a high degree of professionalism.

Restuarants that will be competing on Saturday are Applebee's, Culvers, Damon's, Donny's Bar-B-Que, Old Boy'z Brewhouse, Rosebud Bar and Grill, and Texas Roadhouse.

Burgers, Brats, and Kebob's will be served on Friday and also on Saturday for those who prefer something other than ribs. There will also be a silent auction, raffles, and T-Shirt sales. The T's will be selling for $10.00, and are limited edition.

If you know of an organization that would like to help sponsor this great event please contact Fred LeMieux or Steve Casemier at the VFW at 616.842.6210

 2nd Annual VFW Rib Fest

The Second Annual VFW Rib Fest Battle of the Bones was held on Saturday, May 26, 2007.  Nine area restaurants competed for top honors! Food, Fun, Drinks, Raffles and Music!  Over 2,500 pounds of ribs were served up to an estimated 800 people.  The proceeds will benefit the Ward-Goff Scholarship Fund.

This year we kicked off the Rib Fest weekend on Friday night May 25.  A new addition this year was the Entertainment Tent.  The local band Hy Ryd'r performed in the tent on Friday night and on Saturday night Seventh Son (a seven piece band from Kalamazoo that plays rhythm and blues) performed from 7 PM -11PM.

A big thank you to our celebrity judges.  The more they ate the more they seemed to enjoy it.  Pictured from L-R are LCDR Steve Lowe, USCG Sector Field Office Grand Haven; Gary Hogeboom, Former NFL Quarterback and TV show Survivor participant: and Dennis Edwards, Director of Public Safety.
